USCC East New York 100 Cancelled

Minot, ND (Feb 21st, 2012) The race that was scheduled to take place on March 3, 2012 in Inlet, NY has been cancelled. As many of you know, mother nature has not been friendly to the world of snowmobile racing this winter, and we are continuing to feel the effects. The area doesn’t have enough snow on the site where the race was to take place, therefore forcing the USCC East and the promoter of the race to make the difficult decision to cancel it. There is no significant snow or cold weather in the forecast that would allow us to make this race work. The officials of the USCC East have tried to find an alternate place to hold the event, but the lack of a “true winter” seems to be effecting the whole Northeast.

“Making a decision like this is not an easy thing to do for sure. All year long, there is a lot of work and time that goes into planning these races and having to cancel one is a huge decision” said Erik Frigon, the coordinator for the USCC East. “We have a lot of racers that come from the New York area that drive long distances to the other races that were looking forward to the “home” race”. “Unfortunately we can’t control the weather and I hope that the racers and fans understand”.

Both the USCC East and the promoter will continue to work together to start planning for the 2013 season and put this behind us. Look for a bigger and better event for 2013!

This race being cancelled leaves us with the Maine 100 in Greenville, ME to cap off the season. As of now, there is snow there and plenty of ice. So, the outlook is a good one and we look forward to seeing you all in Greenville.

If you have any questions, please contact Erik Frigon

Hibbert Prepared to Compete for the FIM Snowcross World Championship in Russia

Semigorje, Russia (February 21, 2012) – Tucker Hibbert has arrived in Russia and is prepared to compete for the FIM Snowcross World Championship title this weekend. The reigning US National Champion is known as one of the world’s top snowmobile racers. Hibbert will put that theory to the test Saturday against 33 riders from six countries at The Technical Sports Centre Semigorje near Ivanovo.

This year marks the first time in the nine-year history of the FIM Snowcross World Championship that the event will be held in Russia. The 2010 World Championship in Sweden was Hibbert’s first event outside of North America. He quickly adjusted to the longer, rougher European-style track winning two of the three main events to become the first American to be crowned champion. Last year in Finland, he was the heavy favorite to win but after suffering a mechanical issue in the second of three races, he finished third overall.

Unlike the sanctioning body in the US (ISOC), FIM has sound and fuel restrictions and does not allow the use of traction products in the rubber track of the snowmobile. Hibbert will spend the coming days adjusting to the unique race conditions while his crew executes fine-tuning on his Arctic Cat Sno Pro 600.
On Saturday, a round of qualifying will cut the field down to 22 riders. Those top riders will all compete in three separate 15-minute, plus two lap main events. The rider with best average finish after the three races will take home the 2012 title.
Fans can watch the event free and live online. Qualifying begins at 10 a.m. with the final races from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Be sure to adjust the times to your local time zone. (Example EST: Qualifying 1 a.m. / Final Races 3:30 – 8 a.m.)

Tucker Hibbert – #3 Arctic Cat
“It feels good to be back at the World Championship. This is a unique event. I like the challenge of racing in an unfamiliar place against riders from across the world. What I’m looking forward to the most is the long track. Lap times will be well over a minute, which is twice as long as a typical US track. My crew and I came here prepared to win. We’re focused on riding a smart race and hope to bring the World Championship title back to the US.”

USCC Forced to Cancel Red Lake I-500

USCC Forced To Cancel Red Lake I-500
Oslo 100 Scheduled Instead

Minto, ND (February 16, 2012) – In a season that has not been kind in dropping snow on the territory the USCC calls home, the USCC National Guard Cross-Country Snowmobile Championship has been forced to make the decision to cancel the Red Lake I-500. Originally scheduled for January 13-15, 2012, the race was moved to its backup date of February 24-26 in hopes there would be more snow on the later date. However, USCC officials have decided that the poor conditions in the Thief River Falls, Minn., area where the race is predominantly run are not conducive to a 500-mile event.

“We were hoping along with everyone else that we would get some snow, but it’s just not happening,” said USCC Race Director Jesse Strege. “The decision to cancel the race is a hard one, but there’s no way we can get 500 miles of racing in on the little bit of snow on the ground in the area.”

While it won’t be racing the Red Lake I-500, the USCC will be hosting a race on the weekend nonetheless. The Oslo 100 will take place February 25, 2012, in Oslo, Minn.
“While we can’t race the I-500, we can run a shorter race, so we decided to use the snow available in the Oslo area to stage a one-day, 100-mile event,” said Strege. “The Oslo 100 will be a USCC-level event and we’re hoping to see everyone there.”

The USCC would like to thank all of the Red Lake I-500 sponsors and the people who had already done so much work leading up to the event. We also look forward to working with everyone to make the 2013 Red Lake I-500 as much of a success as those of the past.
The USCC racing circuit is entering its tenth season and is the largest cross-country snowmobile racing organization in North America. USCC has expanded with an Eastern circuit called USCC East. The USCC and USCC East hold races in four states including North Dakota, Minnesota, New York and Maine.
